Portfolio: Yummy Strawberry Ads!

I had so much fun anthropomorphizing these strawberries. The two advertisements are definitely unique and capture people’s attention.

The clearer and more memorable a business identity, the more likely a company will survive and thrive. A business identity system should be unique, unforgettable, and visibly represent a company. It should also be consistent throughout all of a business’s marketing and advertising collateral. The customer recognition of a business name and logo are imperative to the success of a business.
I work closely with clients to create their ideal business identities that vividly represent their businesses and strongly appeal to their customers. Business identity systems include, but are not limited to, a logo, a business card, a letterhead and an envelope.

Portfolio: Bolle

This is an advertisement for Italian sparkling water that I named “Bolle,” which translates to “Bubble” in Italian. I designed the label and created a poster to market the effervescent drink. I wanted the label and the ad to be very exhilarating and enthusiastic to capture the spirit of the beverage.

A Truly Exciting Day of Blogging
Copyright 2007 Jessica Wood: Petunias in The Garden
The above picture was taken in my garden. I live in a charming neighborhood with sprawling gardens, winding roads, and hovering trees. I spend many hours in my garden over the summer, and I like to capture the magnificence in photographs, which brighten my days all throughout the winter.
Portfolio: Public Service Announcement

The four pieces above are the collateral for a public service announcement advertising campaign. Gandi said, "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." I illustrated the message with modern, trendy graphics to convey Gandi’s important words to the teenagers of our society. Many people would love to see specific changes in the world. I agree with Gandi and believe that one must live a life of honesty and lead others by taking an active role in portraying his or her beliefs.
Portfolio: The Varsity Theater
The Varsity Theater and The Loring Pasta Bar are two of the most gorgeous, creative and unique places in Minneapolis. I had the delightful opportunity to be the graphic designer for both places and here are a few posters and advertisements that I designed for them. The vertical posters hung all over the windows the windows of The Varsity and The LPB. The ads were published in the City Pages, The Onion and the Minnesota Daily.

Portfolio: Grasp

Grasp is a magazine that I created as an inspiration for women. I would really like to read a magazine like Grasp, because it is full of optimism, creativity and knowledge. It differs from common women’s magazines, which are full of vanity and useless information about what the season’s hottest nail polish colors are.
I named the magazine Grasp because the theme of the magazine is to take the opportunity to do something when it arises. The featured articles will enhance the female mind and even provoke her to try something new. Articles will also showcase female leaders and their accomplishments. The magazine should enlighten females of many cultural backgrounds.

Environmentally Friendly Design

It is a goal of mine to design products keeping mother nature in mind. When possible, I turn to marketing through the Internet, rather than sending out printed materials. If a brochure, business card, photograph, direct mailer, poster, or any other collateral must be printed, I urge the client to print on recycled papers. I also am beginning to learn about the use of soy inks vs. traditional petroleum based inks, which have a much greater mpact on the environment.
Not only do I practice "being green" in my design life, but I also practice it at home. Although I am far from perfect, I learn a new way to be less wasteful every day. One helpful tip that I would like to suggest is calling the companies that send you loads of junk mail every day. It is pretty simple. Just open up the envelope from the credit card company and call the 1-800 number on the advertisement. Tell the operator that you would like them to stop sending you junk mail and they will take you off their mailing list. This usually takes about 5 minutes, but will make a huge impact in the long run.
If you are interested, my mother-in-law just purchased a really great book for me called, "The Green Guide." It is full of great suggestions. I would love to loan it to you! We could start a book exchange. We would all save money and make a step toward saving our planet.
